Sam M. Gibbons U.S. Courthouse II
Tampa, Florida, USA
438,000 sq. ft. / 40,700 sq. m.
National Department of Energy Award
The design of this federal courts building is formal and carefully proportioned, reflecting the important functions of the spaces inside. This courthouse provides an example of how environmentally responsible design can improve performance and reduce operating costs without adding first costs. Daylighting, passive solar control, and environmentally sensitive building materials are integral parts of HOK's design. The team selected nontoxic, renewable and low-embodied energy materials. The high-efficiency MEP systems and sustainable features helped the project earn a National Department of Energy Award - the first such honor given to a GSA Region IV building.
