Rogers Place and the ICE District

HOK, in association with ATB and Dialog, was commissioned by the city of Edmonton and the National Hockey League’s Edmonton Oilers to design a new arena and to oversee the master plan of an adjacent mixed-use ICE District.

The team designed Rogers Place as a 365-day-a-year destination in downtown Edmonton, Alberta, that balances functionality with an iconic design to reimagine traditional arena architecture. The curvilinear architecture, which bridges the arena and mixed-use ICE District across 104th Street, is aesthetically striking and practical for pedestrians.

“Daryl Katz believed from the beginning that Rogers Place had to be a great piece of architecture for it to catalyze urban revitalization in downtown Edmonton,” said Bob Black, chief project development officer for the Oilers Entertainment Group. “HOK designed a stunningly beautiful building, inside and out, with unparalleled fan amenities.”
