4220 Duncan, the newest building on St. Louis’ Cortex Innovation Community campus, celebrated its official opening.

The new building features a two-story atrium, full-service restaurant, indoor/outdoor event and conference spaces, and a full-service health club.

The innovation district brings together diverse businesses to spur collaboration, ideas and capital. It houses numerous tenants with HOK-designed spaces, including Square and Microsoft, and has become a national model for the project type. HOK also designed the adjacent LEED Platinum @4240 Building on the campus.

Excerpted from the St. Louis Business Journal:

Wexford Science & Technology LLC developed the 182,000-square-foot, five-story building, with Tarlton Construction as the general contractor and HOK as architect.

Cambridge Innovation Center, or CIC, occupies 41,000 square feet, bringing its total square footage in Cortex to 160,000 square feet that’s spread across three buildings. Microsoft occupies 30,000 square feet, followed by BJC Healthcare’s new 16,000-square-foot fitness center, Accenture at 7,000 square feet and the soon-to-open Innovation Hall event space and 23 City Blocks Hospitality’s full-service restaurant The Chocolate Pig. Microsoft said it’s created 150 jobs and is investing over $50 million in local jobs, facilities and software grants with its Microsoft Technology Center in Cortex.

“As we continue to build our innovation community here at Cortex, we are thrilled to have state-of-the-art facilities and critical anchors like CIC, BJC Healthcare, Microsoft and Accenture leading the way,” said Dennis Lower, president of Cortex. “The presence of 4220 and its tenants adds further evidence to the reality that St. Louis has become one of the leading growth cities for innovation companies.”
