New Video Shows Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s Unique Retractable Roof in Motion
A new time-lapse video (above) shows Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s unique retractable roof in motion.
The aperture-like roof on the new stadium for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and MLS’ Atlanta United features eight triangular petals that move in unison along 16 tracks. The roof was designed to be a signature design element rather than a utilitarian cover, and is the centerpiece of the $1.5 billion stadium’s iconic design.
HOK’s Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice designed a first-of-its-kind HD halo video board built into the roof, offering fans an immersive and theatrical 360-degree viewing experience. The video board is more than 63,000 square feet and is three times larger than any other video board in the NFL.
The stadium will open on August 26 for the Atlanta Falcons’ preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
