Stephen Beacham on the Modern Workplace and HOK’s New Philadelphia Office
Brandywine Realty Trust interviewed HOK’s Stephen Beacham, AIA, IIDA, principal and director of design for interiors, about the modern workplace and the firm’s new Philadelphia office at One Logan Square.
“The space transcends functional aesthetics. It demonstrates how carefully designed working environs, when properly harmonized, can positively affect employee wellness, company culture and business efficiency.”
“’The overall look and feel of the space is classic and timeless, but what makes this office unique is the local Philadelphia flair,’ said Beacham. ‘We wanted a signature piece of artwork representative of Philadelphia for our statement space. … We commissioned Isaiah Zagar, whose signature glass mosaic murals appear throughout the streets of Philadelphia, to create a stunning 150-square-foot mosaic in the office’s reception area.’”
“‘The office evokes a clean, elegant and timeless look reflecting HOK’s 60-year legacy of design excellence and innovation,’ added Beacham. ‘We designed it to promote HOK’s goals for collaboration, sustainability and high-performance, and it recently achieved LEED Silver certification.’”
“‘HOK has been working on projects in the Philadelphia region for years, especially in the science and technology, higher-education and corporate business sectors,’ said Beacham. ‘Our Philadelphia team is already working on major institutional projects for Pennsylvania State University and Rowan University. Lorraine Fisher, director of interiors, joined HOK in December, and the office has nearly doubled in size. We’re now working on several confidential corporate interiors projects in the region.’”
