Utah State Recreation Center Nears Completion

USU Aggie Rec CenterThe HOK-designed student recreation center on Utah State University’s campus in Logan is scheduled to open Nov. 19.

“Dubbed ‘the most modern workout facility available’ and ‘a project driven by students for students,’ according to the USU website, the 105,000-sq.-ft. Aggie Recreation Center will include: a fitness center with new locker rooms, an indoor track, climbing wall and cardio and weight rooms; three full-size basketball/volleyball courts; two group fitness studios; a multi-activity court; student lounge space; offices for the Outdoor Recreation Program; Campus Recreation, Intramural and Fitness administration offices; and club sports offices.

“‘One of our jobs at campus recreation is to help students physically, emotionally and mentally,’ Chase Ellis, the school’s new campus recreation director, said of USU students. ‘This building truly is their building. We want them to feel welcome and inviting when they come in. I always say campus recreation influences students and their success in school. So often people see a building like this, and they feel intimidated; they don’t know how to use the equipment. I’m hoping this building makes people feel comfortable and takes out the intimidation factor.’”

“‘Really, this is a dream come true for our students,’ James Morales, USU vice president for student services, said. ‘This is not just a fitness center — this is really a recreation center that allows students to be well and be their best in terms of physically, emotionally and mentally.’”
