BuildingGreen Profiles Sustainable Design of New Atlanta Stadium
Though the Atlanta Falcons’ new home will target Platinum certification under LEED 2009, the project team, including HOK as design architect, is pursuing the environmental product declaration (EPD) credit from LEED v4.
“It’s all part of living up to the Falcons’ motto, ‘A better way to play,’ according to Scott Jenkins, chairman of the Green Sports Alliance and general manager of the new stadium.
“Sustainability is coming right from the top—via Arthur Blank, owner of the Falcons, said HOK’s Chris DeVolder, AIA, sustainability leader on the stadium project.”
“’What I think is really powerful is that we’re a visible part of this community, with millions of people coming to it,’ said Jenkins. ‘It’s a great place to expose the business community and fans—which is just about everybody—to a better way of doing things.’”
“’Sustainability is part of [Blank’s] DNA and the culture he creates within his organizations.’ added DeVolder.”
