HOK Receives Three Outstanding Sports Facility Awards at NIRSA Conference
HOK’s Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice won three awards at the 2015 National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) conference.
The three projects recognized were Auburn University Recreation & Wellness Center, Arizona State University Sun Devil Fitness Complex on the West Campus and the Arizona State University Sun Devil Fitness Complex on the Polytechnic Campus.
“We are proud to work with clients like Auburn University and Arizona State University that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to nurturing a healthy, active lifestyle for their students,” said James Braam, a director in the firm’s Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice. “Each of these projects reflects the unique qualities of the campus it serves and the power that design has in attracting users to engage with wellness in new and exciting ways.”

Auburn University’s Recreation & Wellness Center has been cited in national publications, such as The New York Times, Men’s Health and Fast Company for the innovative 1/3 mile, “corkscrew” track that winds throughout the space. Students were engaged throughout the highly interactive design process to develop programming tailored to the campus.
