Wexford Science + Technology Wins Sustainability Award

Wexford Science + Technology, developer of the HOK-designed @4240 building, was recognized for sustainability in the St. Louis Business Journal’s Innovation Awards.

The award recognizes the company’s contribution to the St. Louis tech community by its multi-million dollar investment in the @4240 building, a state-of-the-art lab and research facility.

“@4240 developer Wexford Science + Technology spent about $73 million renovating the 183,000-square-foot facility at 4240 Duncan Ave. The nearly 70-year-old building boasts a LEED-platinum designation, known commonly as the gold standard in sustainable design and construction. HOK provided design work on the building and Tarlton Corp. was lead contractor. The facility is equipped with customizable labs and office space, wide hallways full of furniture and gizmo hookups, and by design tries to throw folks together in chance conversations that can lead to new business connections.”

“[Jerry Crylen, Wexford’s senior director of development,] said @4240 is 90 percent leased. Within the next two months or so he expects it to reach its highest occupancy level while allowing for some natural turnover. ‘Going from zero to nearly 100 percent leased in less than a year — it’s a real testimony’ to the facility’s success, Crylen said. In total, there are about 65 companies working out of the building, housing more than 450 jobs.”
