HOK Appoints Daniel Hajjar as Managing Principal in London
HOK has announced the appointment of Daniel Hajjar as its new managing principal in London. Hajjar has relocated to London from the firm’s Dubai office, where he had been the managing principal for HOK in the Middle East and Africa since 2010.
Hajjar, who helped establish HOK’s office in Dubai in 2000, will lead the London office while providing oversight for the Middle East and Africa. He joins HOK’s leadership team in London, which includes Larry Malcic, AIA, design principal, Robyn Gilmour, marketing principal, David King, RIBA, technical principal, and Andrew Childs, director of finance.
A senior vice president and member of HOK’s board of directors, Hajjar is a registered architect with more than 25 years of experience in design, planning, architecture and project management.
“Daniel is a proven leader in the design profession who has helped build our highly successful practice in the Middle East,” said Tom Robson, AIA, LEED AP, HOK’s chief operating officer. “Having collaborated with our London teams frequently, he knows the team and market well and is the ideal person to lead the practice’s efforts to provide the highest quality planning and design services.”
“We are committed to ensuring that HOK’s office remains among the strongest design practices in London,” said Hajjar. “I’m thrilled to continue to work with such talented teams and wonderful clients and look forward to building on the London office’s recent successful projects including the New Papworth Hospital, the Francis Crick Institute and the BBC New Broadcasting House.”
HOK’s London and Dubai offices are currently collaborating with Arup on the design of the Dubai Expo 2020 host venue. HOK was the lead designer for the team that developed the master plan for Dubai Expo 2020, which is expected to draw more than 25 million visitors to the United Arab Emirates.
In August, HOK announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire US-based sports and entertainment facility design leader 360 Architecture. Earlier this year, John Rhodes joined HOK as a director of Sports + Recreation + Entertainment in London. Rhodes’ team will collaborate with their new colleagues at 360 Architecture to offer integrated sports and entertainment design services to HOK clients around the world.
Hajjar is past vice chairman of the Emirates Green Building Council. He holds a Master of Architecture degree and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada.
