Domenic Salpietra Joins HOK’s Chicago Practice as Regional Planning Leader

Domenic SalpietraDomenic Salpietra, AIA, has joined HOK in Chicago as senior associate and regional planning leader. Salpietra, an urban designer and registered architect with more than 12 years of experience, will guide planning for HOK’s projects in the Chicago office. In addition to his regional role, he will join the leadership team of HOK’s global planning group.

“The addition of Domenic to our team increases the depth of our global planning and urban design practice while reinforcing HOK’s commitment to local markets, the places that we live and work every day,” said Chris Fannin, co-director of the firm’s global planning practice.

Salpietra joins HOK from the Chicago office of SOM, where he was an associate in the firm’s city design practice and was instrumental in establishing design direction and project vision for several high-profile international projects, including the Xiangzhou Harbor Redevelopment in Zhuhai, China; Zhuxinzhuang Technical Business District in Beijing, China; and TEDA Chadian Knowledge City Master Plan in Tianjin, China.

“Domenic’s passion about cities and expertise in understanding the increasingly complex and interconnected challenges they face bring tremendous value to our practice,” said Peter Ruggiero, design principal for HOK in Chicago. “His knowledge strengthens our commitment to solving such challenges.”

A member of the American Institute of Architects, Salpietra holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design with distinction degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Arizona.
