BBC New Broadcasting House Honored as Best Managed Project
The BBC’s New Broadcasting House, or W1 Programme, has won Programme of the Year at the 2013 APM Project Management Awards in London.
HOK provided interior design for the state-of-the-art, 484,000-sq.-ft. creative hub, which consolidates 5,550 BBC staff in the center of London.
“‘Our stunning new Broadcasting House will be a lasting legacy of this success, as will the quality of the programming produced in this state-of-the-art building,’ says Dominic Coles, BBC director of operations.”
“Phase Two of the W1 Programme ended in March 2013 having delivered on-air, on-schedule and under budget. It delivered a £30m underspend on the original £1.046bn budget and has trebled the financial benefits first identified in 2002 – to over £700m over the remaining 21-year life of the bond. More than 5,500 staff - mostly professional journalists - were successfully moved into the redeveloped Broadcasting House with no loss of output as a result.”
“Partners involved in the delivery of the W1 programme cited collaborative working, open teamwork, divisional engagement, project leadership and a strong commitment from stakeholders as key to its success.”
“The programme is already helping BBC budgets to go further by sharing content and guests more easily, reducing support and training costs, disposing of smaller unwanted buildings and using new workflows to save money.”
